Pool Pro Tip:
Chlorine “Lock” due to high CYA levels
To lower Cyanuric Acid levels in a pool you can:
1. Partial Water Replacement
Drain a portion of the pool water and replace it with fresh water. This dilutes the concentration of Cyanuric Acid, however it is important to monitor other chemicals levels to maintain a balanced pool environment.
2. Use CYA Reducer
CYA reducers use a natural water process to reduce cyanuric acid and are only efficient when your water is properly balanced. Follow product instructions carefully if you choose this option, which may include lowering Chlorine levels below 3ppm and maintain overall good water chemistry.
3. Natural Breakdown
Over time, sunlight can naturally break down CYA. However, this is a slow process and might not be sufficient for rapid reduction. This is the least efficient method and may only be achieved in the fall and winter seasons when chlorine demand is low.
